School Reports

While not bound by the national curriculum as an Independent School, we find it helpful to monitor national "levels”, that is the standard expected of a child at a certain stage or year of his/her development. These are included as a guide that we think may be helpful to parents to give a comparative idea of the standard reached, and what is being aimed for.

The policy of Priory School remains unchanged, to teach to the child not the test, and these levels are only given as a guide, and in no way determine how each child is individually dealt with.

Year 2, AGE 7 (End of Key Stage 1) - Level 2 (2a, 2b, 2c)
Years 3-5, AGES 8-10 (Start of Key Stage 2) - Levels 3-4  (3a, 3b,3c)
Year 6 AGE 11 (End of Key Stage 2) - Level 4  (4a, 4b, 4c)

Any level above level 4 (eg level 5 or 6) means that a child is already reaching a standard higher than the average for Junior School age.

a, b, c within each levels indicate progress gained, with ‘a’ being the highest. So if a child has reached level 2b in Reading, the next stage up would be level 2a. Once that is reached, the next stage up is 3c, and so on.  Compare the level in the report to your child’s age, and you will be able to see what stage he or she has reached.

Other grades in other subjects are given by the normal method of A-E, where A is the highest. These grades are given in subjects other than English & Maths to indicate progress and effort.

Please see http://curriculum.qca.org.uk for further explanation if required.

If you wish to discuss any aspects of this report, including levelling, please contact Mrs Bartlett, Head of Junior School, to make an appointment for the Autumn Term.
