About Us

Priory School was founded in Shanklin in 1993 out of Upper Chine School. In 2009 the school came into the ownership of Edmund Matyjaszek, whose family has been in teaching for generations, and whose three sons attend the school.

An Oxford scholar and former director and trustee of the Poetry Society, Mr Matyjaszek is also an experienced company director trained in law. He will be a non-teaching principal, and has appointed as Heads of Junior School (5-11) and Senior School (11-18) previous incumbents of these posts, Mrs Marie Bartlett, and Mrs Glynis Bates.

The School Administrator, Mr Robert Bartlett, and the Bursar, Mr Desmond Wakely CIMA, complete the school management team, with a clear division of teaching and administrative roles to allow the teaching staff to be devoted fully to the pupils’ studies.

Priory School will develop its academic strengths, offering Academic Bursaries in 2009, and A levels in 2010; its sports including team sports; its music with an orchestra and choir being formed; and its drama and art. After school clubs will also be offered across a range of activities.
